Funeral services for Horace Bluford, who died suddenly Sunday at about 8 p.m., were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Nicholas Habets, pastor of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Bluford, at the time of his death, was president of the Virginia Beach Amusement and Pier Corporation and owner of Casino Park at Virginia Beach. He had been a leader in the amusement field in the Tidewater resort area for many years. He was engaged in business at Seaside Park as early as 1926. Since that time he had widened his scope of interests to include operations at the Ocean View Amusement Park, and at Ocean City, Md., and Nags Head, N. C. In 1944 he acquired and developed the property now known as Casino Park, and recently undertook the formation of the corporation for constructing the fishing and amusement pier.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, and of the National Association of Parks, Pools and Beaches.
He was the son of the late Horace and Mrs. Annie Lee Fowler Buford.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Capitola Prince Bluford; six daughters, Mrs. Benjamin P. Barco, Mrs. William J. Harris, Mrs. Gloria Bluford Sykes, Mrs. Barbara Bluford Withers, Mrs. William A. Nixon, and Miss Carol Bluford, all of Virginia Beach, and nine grandchildren; a brother, Vernon Bluford, and a sister, Mrs. Robert M. Boyd, both of Norfolk.
