Elzie is the son of Albert J. Owens and Alta Purcelle Owens. He is the son in law of Walter Wirt Killam and Edna Pratt Killam, their daughter Daisey Dorothy Killam married Elzie on May 25, 1911. They had 4 children Gerald Phillip, Dorothy Jane, Walter Jackson, Lillie Grace. Elzie died of Coronary Thrombosis and Arteriosclerotic Heart Diease. He was taken to Iraan General Hospital, Iraan, Pecos County, TX were he passed away 13 days later. He was a Pumper in the Oil Production and his last residence was Pct 3 Plymouth Oil Company Olsen Field Crockett, Texas. He was laid to rest on April 1, 1960.
