Death of Mrs Mercie B Howes
We are sorry to report the death of Mrs Mercie B Howes last Sunday night at her Summer home on Cross Street, after an illness of several weeks.Mrs. Howes was the wife of the late Capt Franklin Howes of this place, most of her married life being passed here, where her children were born and educated.Mrs Howes was always very active in church affairs and was one of the former presidents of our local W.C.T.U.
For a number of years she has resided in the vicinity of Boston, where she has been prominent in religious and philanthropic work, but always retaining her love for her home here, and bestowing love and sympathy on her old friends on many occasions. She will be greatly mourned and missed by her family, who have been very devoted to her,and to whom she has been a most faithful and devoted mother.
She leaves five sons,Frank,George,Earnest,Henry and Samuel Howes of the Boston leather firm of Howes Bros.,and two daughters Mrs Ernest Zeis of Waban, and Miss Minnie Howes of Brookline.
Services were held at her late home Tuesday at one o'clock,Rev. Eben Tirrell of the M E Church of this town and Rev Mr Johnson of Wellfleet, a former pastor of the deceased, officiating .The Locust Mate Quartette of Boston rendered beautiful selections.
