His mother passed away on September 8 1896 a few weeks after giving birth to baby Estella.
Omar enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1917. He was a Private serving with the 16th Infantry, Co F, in France, as a cook. One night while busy in his kitchen, the encampment was attacked by Germans. Omar picked up a rifle to fight. He was severely injured by bullet and bayonet. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was Honorably Discharged in August 1919.
He married Hazel Irene Gardner on October 10 1920 in St Louis Missouri. He and Hazel were devoted to each other and had four children, Pauline, Dorothy, Omar and William.
The family lived in Missouri, Arizona and finally, California.
Omar had several occupations including farmer, deputy sheriff of High Hill MO, chef and real estate agent.
