Ella Faye (Asbury) Larner, who went by "Faye" all her life, as did several of her sisters, who went by their middle names, as well. Faye was the third of 7 children and she was born in Waterville, Washington on December 1, 1902 to Gilbert Sylvester ("Gibb") Asbury (of Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin) and Anna Eliza Wright (of Waukon, Allamakee County, Iowa). She was raised in Eastern & Central Washington, and graduated from Brewster High School in Okanagan County. She married Walter Scott Larner on May 4, 1927 in Wenatchee, Washington, where their two children, Thomas Asbury Larner and Mildred Anne ("Anne") Larner were born. After her husband Walter died from a genetic heart defect in 1946, she had to make a living in banking and raise her two children as a single mother. She never remarried and retired from the banking business in the late 1960's. She moved to Portland, Oregon in the late 1960's or early 1970's to live near her daughter's family. When Anne and her husband were transferred to Tokyo, Japan in the mid 1970's, she returned to the Wenatchee area until her daughter returned to the U.S., living in Lewiston, Idaho, where Faye passed away due to complications from dementia on March 16, 1989, and was buried next to Walter in the Wenatchee City Cemetery.
