He was born Oct. 9, 1930, to Raynold and Frieda (Messerli) Hirschi in Geneva, Idaho. He was the youngest of 14 children. He is survived by two brothers, Leroy and Jesse Hirschi. He attended school in Geneva and Montpelier, Idaho, where he graduated in 1948. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served four years in Shemya, Aleutian Islands. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Bear Lake, where he met and pursued his lifelong sweetheart, Glenna Lee Sparks. They were married July 5, 1956, in Dingle, Idaho, and had their marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 15, 1996. They had 55 wonderful years of love together here on this earth. They were blessed with four children, Guy (Deb) Hirschi, Stephanie (Gene) Larsen, Kendra (Lynn) Hemmert and Wendy (Brett) Turner; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His greatest love on this earth was his wife and family and his free time was devoted to spending as much time with them as he could. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a joy in his life. He had a love of outdoors and especially loved fly fishing and hunting. Family vacations were often spent camping at Greys River or Snake River, Wyo.
His early years were spent working the family dry farm in Geneva, Idaho. After returning from the service and starting his family, he spent time working in New Mexico, Texas and Wyoming. He and Glenna then decided to return home to their beloved Bear Lake Valley, where he worked until his retirement in Soda Springs, Idaho. After retirement, he and Glenna moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, to be closer to family, where he worked for Avis Car Rental for 17 years. Gordon was blessed with great friends throughout his lifetime. He was admired and loved by co-workers and anyone that ever met him.
His great work ethic, integrity and honest spirit set an example that his children and grandchildren will always remember. We will miss his humor, his jokes and teasing, but most of all, we will miss his hugs!
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; his son-in-law, Brett Turner; and a grandson, Larry Larsen.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, with viewing at 1 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 13th Ward in Twin Falls, Idaho. Interment will be held immediately following the service at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding, Idaho. Services are under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Chapel in Twin Falls.
