MUNCIE--Waynetta Kay Gibson, 70, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN, surrounded by family.
She was born in Muncie on August 31, 1941, the daughter of Gladys LaWayne and Bernard Calvin Thompson. She spent much of her childhood in Annapolis, MD, where her father was stationed with the U.S. Navy.
She married on February 8, 1970, to Stephenson Gibson, son of Della and Vernon Gibson. A 1987 graduate of Muncie School of Practical Nursing, she served others as a nurse for 20 years at Westminster Village in Muncie, retiring in 2009. She previously had worked at Woodlands Nursing Home in Muncie.
She volunteered for Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie, along with the Job's Daughters and DeMolay youth organizations. She was a long-time participant in the Muncie T.O.P.S. Club. She enjoyed attending church services at Covenant Partners Ministries, True Light Baptist Church and New Life Tabernacle.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Patrick Kerrigan.
Visitation for family and friends will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011 and one hour prior to services Monday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, with Pastor Linda McBride officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery.
