Betty Jean "Patsy" was born at home in Melvin, Texas to Henry and Ruth Carlson. She was the youngest of four girls in the family. She was a member of the Melvin Evangelical Free Church and attended the public school there until age 16 when her mother died. She then moved with her faterh to the nearby town of Brady. Here "Patsy" graduated from High School and went on the business college. In the 1950s she moved to Minneapolis, MN and worked at the Beacon Bookstore and for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. In February 1961, she met Carl Nelson of rural Hinckley, MN and they were married on Oct 12, 1963 in Austin, TX. They lived on the farm where Carl and his brother, Norman had been farming since 1950. They had three sons, Loren, Larry, and Myron. Carl and Patsy have been members of the Sandstone Evangelical Free Church since the mid 1960s and have been very active in various roles throughout the years. Patsy was a devoted wife and loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was thankful for her rich Christian heritage growing up and worked hard her whole life to share and pass on to her family. Patsy was diagnosed with cancer on Sept. 26, 2003 and she wnet to be with the Lord she loved and served on Oct. 27, 2003. She is sorely missed but her love and memories will live forever. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruth Carlson and one sister, Mary Helen. She is survived by her husband, Carl, Three sons, Loren, Larry, and Myron Nelson also of Hinckley, nine grand children, two sisters Dorothy Carlson of Austin, TX and Junell McBee of Smithville, TX.
