Dorothy Irene Leonard Koester Schmidt, 79, of Wimberley, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 22, 2011.

Dorothy was born in Hart, Texas on December 2, 1931 to William and Sarah Leonard, but soon moved to San Perlita, Texas.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Raymondville.

Dorothy married A.O. "Mickey" Koester, the father of her two children, and they farmed in Willacy County for over 25 years until his death in 1975.

She later met and married Jim Schmidt, and they lived in Sterling, Colorado where she owned and operated a Ceramic Studio until her retirement. She and Jim moved to Central Texas to be closer to her family and the bluebonnet fields they loved. In 2009, she moved to Wimberley to be closer to her daughter.

Dorothy will be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother, a fun-loving friend, a wonderful cook, and a talented ceramics artist.

She is survived by daughter, Carolyn (Tommy) Joyner of Dripping Springs, TX and son Curtis (Virginia) Koester of San Perlita, TX.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, Coy (Shannon) and Kyle Joyner and Kelly Koester; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Maddy Joyner; and good friend John Magnuson.

Her family would like to recognize the nurses and staff of Deer Creek of Wimberley and VistaCare Hospice for the loving care they provided for our mother during her final years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Dripping Springs Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1185, Dripping Springs, TX 78620 or to the Willacy County Young Farmers College Fund, P.O. Box 821, Raymondville, TX 78580 or to a charity of your choice .

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 4 p.m. at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery in Raymondville, TX with Rev. James P. Kretzmann officiating, under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home, Raymondville. (956) 689-2151.
