Rebecca Charis Elford, 82, of Meridian, our loving aunt, friend, and sister went to meet the Lord on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at a local care center.

Rebecca was born to Charley and Beatrice Donald on January 11, 1929 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She grew up with her grandparents on their farm. She attended college at Scarritt College in Nashville Tennessee, where she received a Master's Degree in Christian Education.

She moved to Boise Idaho in the late 1960's to work at the First United Methodist Church as Director of Christian Education. She and her college friend, Dorothy Borger, raised Dorothy's son, Thomas Houdeshell. She also taught as a substitute teacher for the Boise school district.

Late in life, she met the love of her life, Robert Elford. They were married for five joyous years. Rebecca received her certificate as a Diaconal Minister as well. She was a member of the Whitney United Methodist Church, and of Zonta. She enjoyed the outdoors, and the ocean was her favorite place on earth.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, and two brothers.

Rebecca is survived by her sisters, Judith Rowland and Caroline Duckworth of Florida; one brother, Duane Jendrick; her friend, Dorothy; Thomas Houdeshell and his family; and the Elford family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Whitney United Methodist Church, 3315 W. Overland Road Boise, ID 83705, with Rev. Christina M. Thompson officiating.

Memorial gifts or contributions may be made in Rebecca's name to the Whitney United Methodist Church.
