Obituary: Edwin Emil Huhtala. Ed Huhtala died December 12, 1999 from complications of cancer. He was born Jan. 4, 1918 in Park City, Utah to Hedvig Palokari and August Raatikainen. He married his sweetheart, Clara Provost, on Dec. 5, 1944. They were sealed in the Timpanogos Temple, February 13, 1999. She preceded him in death on January 28, 1998. Their lives together were a model for their entire family and all who knew them, in sacrifice, devotion, love, patience and understanding. Since her death, he has been lovingly friendshipped by neighbors, with gifts of time, faith and companionship. This kind and gentle man enjoyed spending time with family and friends on the "Orem Bench" in Salina Canyon. He loved the out of doors and valued life in every form. He and Clara loved to travel, making memories that they shared. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He served in the US Army in Burma and India during World War II. He worked and retired from Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. after 37 years.


He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Bill) Walton, West Valley; son, Edwin C. (Susan) Huhtala, Orem; daughter, Barbara (Tom) Houghton, North Salt Lake; 13 special grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Eino (Yvonne) Huhtala, Fremont, CA.


He was preceded in death by one brother and one grandson. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 15, 1999, at 10 a.m. in the Hillcrest 3rd Ward Chapel, 1450 South 800 East in Orem. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St. in Orem and also Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Midway City Cemetery.
