Attended Carson Newman College, U. T., Knoxville, and Tennessee Wesleyan. Erma was a great teacher, inspiring and helping many students through the years. Following her 40-year teaching career in Meigs County, she spent 6 years in Frankfort, Germany and 6 years in Tokyo, Japan teaching children of the U. S.Armed Forces.
Erma played on the women's baskeball team at Carson Newman College and later coached basketball at Ten Mile Elementary School.
A lover of horses all her life, she rode horseback to school when she was young.
