David O. Maynard was the son of Richard E. and Almira Woodward Maynard, born in East Lyme, CT. David and his wife, Jane Bump Maynard, had the Maynard House and Maynard Market in Old Lyme, until both buildings burned to the ground in 1915. David and Jane had 10 children plus one who died in infancy. David was a member of Pythagoras Lodge #45 in Lyme, CT, (which is now Old Lyme, CT) and was an active member of the community. As Second Selectman, David took care of the dam at Roger's Lake for many years; Roger's Lake was also the source of ice, which David cut and stored in his ice house at the lake, and used in the Maynard Market.
