Funeral services will be Thursday, November 17th at 2:00 p.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Campground Cemetery. Officiating will be Brother Bill Gardner and Keith Bellamy. Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Upchurch, Colt Bumstead, Clay Bumstead, Luke Bumstead, Dillon Boykin and Josh Kirkpatrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Upchurch Judy Upchurch, Frank Donahoe and Bud Jones.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 16th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lawrence was born August 14, 1938 to Lee & Belle Garrett Upchurch in Gould, Oklahoma. He graduated from Gould High School in 1956 and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians after playing for the American Legion League in the latter part of the 1950's. He was a longtime resident of Tyler County and had opened the J.B. White store in 1974. He played the piano and guitar and loved southern Gospel music. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee & Belle Upchurch and sister, Dorothy Jauch.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Faye Lilley Upchurch of Woodville; son, Rodney Upchurch & wife, Herlinda of Houston; daughter, Judy Upchurch & husband, David Costa of Jacksonville; step son, Jerry Bumstead & wife, Theresa of Woodville; step daughter, Angela Boykin & husband, Frank of College Station; brother, Thomas Upchurch & wife, Ruth of Woodward, OK; sisters, Marie Gregg of Kansas City KS and Wilma Harris of Wichita Falls; mother-in-law, Floy Lilley of Woodville; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
