Larry Eldon Schenkel, age 77, of New Castle, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. He was born October 11, 1934 in Urbana, Indiana to the late Meredith and Mabel (Price) Schenkel.

Larry retired from Mac's Steakhouse in New Castle in 1999 after 22 years of service. He also ran a route for Wonder Bread in Rushville. He was a member of Teamsters Local 135 and Rushville Masonic Lodge. He was baptized in the Salem United Methodist Church. Larry loved the Indianapolis Colts and IU Basketball. He also enjoyed NASCAR races, fishing, bingo and playing cards.

Survivors include his children, Sheree Schenkel (David) Porter of Tallahassee, FL, Chris (Joyce) Schenkel of St. Petersburg, FL, Lisa Schenkel (James) Willoughby of New Castle, Lance (Holly) Schenkel of Richmond, IN, Jack (Paula) Neukam of Westport, IN and Kim Mohr of Laurel, IN; sister, Jane Schenkel Kazee of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Jessica Porter (John) Kerr, Emily Porter, Nicole Schenkel Sexton, Timothy (Jacinda) Willoughby, Kimmberly Willoughby Scace, Megan Willoughby, Taylor and Kenzie Henson, Nathan Schenkel, Bobby and Eli Neukam, Brooke Gilbert, Ross and Madison Mohr; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mae Fultz Schenkel and an infant daughter, Karen Sue.

Masonic services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Rushville, followed by the funeral service with Reverend John Dunaway officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Larry Schenkel Memorial Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com.
