One of 12 children, the daughter of Thomas Preston "Pressy" Smith and Martha Odell Crum born in Red Oak, Ellis county, Texas on 3 Apr 1879.An interesting note of history is that several of the Smiths married the Slaughters. "Birdie" as she was known, married Sam Slaughter in 1896.
