Henry was the son of John de Cobham, of Cobham and Cowling, and Sheriff of Kent, and Joan de Septvans. Grandson of Sir John de Cobham and Maud FitzBenedict, and Robert Septvans.

He married Maud de Moreville, the daughter of Eudes de Moreville and widow of Matthew de Columbers. They married before July 1285 and had one son, his successor, John de Cobham.

He was summoned to Parliament on 8 January 1313 and for the rest of his life. He died at Hache, Somerset and buried at the Beauchamp Chapel.
