Charles H. Burling was born on March 1, 1924 in Wheeler, Wisconsin and spent most of his early years on his Grandparents’ farm in nearby Colfax. He was one of seven children born to Lawrence and Lila Burling. Chuck left Wisconsin early in life and relocated to Seattle, Washington and later to Bossier City, Louisiana. He often told the story of “hopping” an open freight train from North Dakota to Seattle in the dead of winter. He called it the hobo train and soon found himself in the company of several men who schooled him on the fine art of train travel. He never forgot that and believed that you could learn from anyone, no matter what their life situation might be. Chuck owned and operated many successful businesses during his life. In spite of his business success, he would always refer to himself simply as a salesman. He like and respected people and that respect was returned to him continually through the years. He gave everyone a second chance, or a third or fourth, or however many it took, to ensure success.

Chuck was married to Evelyn Burling who gave birth to three sons, Dennis, Don, and infant son Dean. Evelyn and son Dean passed away early in life. In 1959 Chuck married Arlene Burling. Don and Dennis were joined by Brothers Larry and Jim and sister, Connie. The youngest daughter, Ann soon completed the family. Chuck and Arlene dedicated the next fifty six years molding their families together to become one. Chuck and Arlene were very proud of this accomplishment and always cherished each of the six sons and daughters as their very own.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and sisters, and son Jim Burling. He is survived by his sister, Clara Zabrocki, brother, Duane Burling, loving wife Arlene Burling, sons Dennis Burling (Lesta), Don Burling (Karen) and Larry Burling (Faye) and daughters Connie Burling Parchem (Rick) and Ann Burling Roseberry (Bo), daughter-in-law Margaret Burling, ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Chuck’s faith carried him through his last days on earth. He had no doubt that there was a place in heaven waiting for him. He looked forward to meeting his Lord and Savior and visiting with those loved ones waiting for him.
