Bill Caster was born in 1924 in Darlington, Indiana to Nellie Booher-Caster and William Caster. He had one sister Arthella Caster (Weliver). The family eventually moved to the small farming community of New Ross, Indiana where he and his sister grew up and attended school. He graduated from New Ross High School in the spring of 1942. Soon after graduation, like most of the young men his age during WWII, he enlisted in the military and served as a Gunner's Mate in the United States Navy where he earned the rank of Second Class Petty Officer. On June 6, 1948, he married Helen Elizabeth Young of Indianapolis, Indiana. In the late 1940's and early 1950's, he attended Butler University in Indianapolis where he earned a bachelor's degree in business in 1952. The couple had two children. In 1962 he suffered a heart attack and passed away at the young age of 38 years. Bill Caster was a kind hearted, intelligent man who possessed a very sharp, dry wit. He loved animals, appreciated classical music, art, architecture, craftsmanship and beautiful cars. He loved and was loved by his entire family. He personified the idea that "the good die young."
