Emma was the first of two children born to Nickolas Mies and Marie V. Delfeld in Hampton, Minnesota. Emma's parents had been residents of Dakota County since their own childhoods.

Alphonse Thomas "Al" Daleiden (1907-1997; FAG# 80374979) married Emma Marie "Emma" Mies (1906-1989; FAG# 80375017) on 14 Jan 1943. Emma and Al grew up together in the small town of Hampton and lived there their entire lives. They had one child together. Al worked with his father and in the family businesses until his own retirement. He and Emma lived on the main road going through town. One could find a warm welcome anytime from anytime. They were active in their town and lovingly cared for their home and gardens.
Emma passed away at the age of 82 in 1989. Al joined Emma 1997. Al and Emma are buried next to each other in the St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery in Hampton, near their parents, Emma's brother and his wife, several of Al's siblings and many relatives.
