David was the son of Scipio Weldon and Frances (Wray) Whisnant. He married Mary Susan Boyd and they were the parents of four children: Jennie Wray, Patsy Boyd, Mary Frances and David Weldon.

Mr. David Wray Whisnant, of Silverleaf Farm did Saturday, March 27, 1976 in a local nursing home. Mr. Whisnant was born March 4, 1907 in Salisbury, N.C., son of the late Scipio Weldon Whisnant and Frances Wray Whisnant. Mr. Whisnant married the former Mary Boyd in 1926 and Mrs. Whisnant died in 1985. Whisnant was the owner and operator of the Carolina Neon Sign Co. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 29, 1976 at the Harry and Bryant Chapel in the Oaks conducted by the Rev. Cecil Myrick. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial park. He is survived by one son, Dave (Cy) Whisnant of Charlotte; three daughters, Mrs. Jenny Wray Deitz, Mrs. Frankie Clark and Mrs. Patsy W. Deitz all of Charlotte; three sisters, Mrs. Willa Mae Ludwig of Salisbury, N.C., Mrs. Anne Wilkinson of Concord, N.C. and Mrs. Amelia Beck of Granite Quarry, N.C.; three brothers, William M. Whisnant of Charlotte, S.W. Whisnant of Charlotte and four grandsons. The family will be at the home of Mrs. L. G. Deitz, Jr., 6704 Woodstock Dr. Charlotte.
