Erhardt E. Claus, known as 'Hardy' Claus, 52, of Lake Nettie, died early Friday morning at Alpena Hospital. Born Aug. 21, 1926 in Hawks, he was married to the former Mayme Rintala on June 26, 1948 in Detroit. He returned to Presque Isle County 23 years ago where he was employed by Michigan Lime and Chemical Co. as a cost analyst. A veteran of World War II, he is a former secretary-treasurer of the Serviceman's Club; treasurer of Hope Lutheran Church in Hawks for eight years; treasurer of St. John Lutheran Church in Rogers City for 13 years; former secretary-treasurer of the Alpena Bowling League; and president of the Presque Isle Prominaders.
Mr. Claus was survived by his wife; a son, Douglas Claus of Hawks; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret (Gary) Pollock of Cheboygan and Mrs. Beth (Gregory) Heinzel of Rogers City; four brothers, Paul, Marvin and Elmer of Rogers City and Herbert of Lake Nettie; seven sisters, Mrs. Edna (Henry) Grulke, Mrs. Anne (Archie) McEachern of Ocqueoc, Mrs. Florence (LeRoy) Urlaub of Hawks, Mrs. Dorothy (Herbert) Nagel of Hawks, Mrs. Gertrude (John) Meyers of Rogers City, Mrs. Agnes (Kenneth) Tulgetske of Hawks and Mrs. Effie (Alfred) Brege of Hawks. One sister preceded him in death. Two grandchildren also survived him.
