Edith M. Downen, 61, of Rockwood, died Wednesday in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Murphysboro, after an illness of two days.

She was born July 2, 1912, in Jacob, to Herman A. and Clemine McBride Leinicke.

On June 23, 1932, in Murphysboro, she married Benton Downen. He preceded her in death Aug. 8, 1964.

She was a member of the Cora Presbyterian Church and the Royal Neighbors Camp No. 8743.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Mae Derossett of Murphysboro; her mother of Rockwood; brothers, Raymond and Charles W. Leinicke, both of Rockwood; sisters, Roberta Heins and Mary Saul, both of Rockwood, and Verna Buffington of Huntington Beach, Calif; and one granddaughter.

A brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cora Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Lee Pope Ward officiating. Burial will be in Ava Evergreen cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday and until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home in Ava.
