Sam was the superintendent of building & grounds with the Mechanicsburg School District for 21 years and a former partner in S. H. Black & Son from 1985 to 2002. He was a member of the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church and served on the board of trustees. Sam was a former president of the Mechanicsburg Borough Council; served on the Park and Recreation Board; Past President of the State Assoc. of Boroughs; member of Mechanicsburg Club, Businessmen's League, Y's Mens Club, Past President and District Governor of the Kiwanis, West Shore BPOE, and Millerstown Family Order of Moose, Newport American Legion and Newport VFW, Carlisle Eagles # 1299. Sam enjoyed his cabin along the Juniata River.
He is survived by four daughters Susan Eagen of Tennessee, Margaret Woll, Constance Roland, both of Mechanicsburg, Jessica Black of California, daughter-in-law Kierna Black of Mechanicsburg, and his sister Lois Ann Baumbach of Florida. Six grandchildren and seven great grand-children. He was predeceased by his son Samuel Andrew Black and his granddaughter Amy Woll, and his brother Shuman Black.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. November 14, in his church, with the Rev. Myrtle McCall officiating. Visitation and refreshments will follow the services at the church. Interment will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday, in the Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church Educational Fund, 300 East Simpson St. Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 501 N.
