Vera Mae Moos Ottinger Indianapolis, passed peacefully away Oct. 17th, 2007, after a short stay at Robin Run Health Care Center. Born on Sept. 23, 1920, Vera Mae was the only child of Pearl Edna and Wilhelm Moos, and spent her early years on the family farm in Zionsville.

Farm life agreed with her and blessed her with the strong family and social values, and indomitable faith and spirit that defined her entire life. Her tremendous love of animals and nature, tirelessly giving heart and fierce loyalty to her family and friends were among the virtues that were immediately evident to anyone she met. After graduating from Carmel High School in 1938 she married her sweetheart, Oleous Keith Ottinger, of New Augusta, who preceded her in death in 2005. When Oleous left to serve in WWII, Vera went to work at Pitman-Moore to support the war effort, where she served for over 10 years.

In 1960, they adopted their only son, Tony Lee Ottinger, now of Tucson, AZ. Vera returned to work in the 70's serving as a School Nurse at Pike High School. Vera then took a position at Ayr-Way (Target) on Michigan Road, where she retired after 25 years. Vera was a member of the Christian Science Church for many years before joining North Liberty Christian Church in the mid-70's, where she was a loyal and beloved member until her passing. A devoted daughter, wife, mother, friend, lover of animals and avid card player, and having "never met a stranger"

Vera is survived by scores of friends and family to carry the legacy of her life and love in their hearts and memories. Though our world is surely a dimmer place today without her here, heaven is just as surely a brighter and happier place with her constant cheerful smile, and infectious laughter.

Services will be held at 11am Thurs. Oct. 25th, at Flanner & Buchanan in Zionsville, conducted by Senior Minister Ed Maurer of North Liberty Christian Church. Graveside services at Eagle Creek Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm on Wed. Oct. 24th. All are welcome to attend. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Humane Society of Indianapolis, 7929 N. Michigan Rd., 46268, ph. 872-5650 ext. 125. Arrangements are by Flanner & Buchanan, Zionsville, ph. 873-3366.
