LAKE CITY -- Mr. James Walter Derry, 78, died Sunday, September 28, 2003, in the Lake City hospital after an illness.

Mr. Derry was born in Colleton County, a son of the late Harry and Teresa Derry. He was a retired salesman and member of the Lake City Presbyterian Church and the J. D. Whitehead Sunday School Class. He was a Marine veteran of World War II and a member of the V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife, Ada Stackhouse Derry; a daughter, Charlotte Whittenton of Savannah, Ga.; four grandchildren, Laurie Wetmore, Carrie Braddock, Daniele Whittenton and Bobby Ray Whittenton Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Wetmore, Kayson Wetmore and Lillian Braddock.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today in Lake City Memorial Park with military honors.

Memorials may be made to Lake City Presbyterian Church, 301 E. Main St., Lake City, SC 29560; or, Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, 2350 Lucas St., Florence, SC 29501.

The family will have visitation at 10:30 a.m. today at Lake City Memorial Park Cemetery.
