LAFONTAINE — Donald R. Porter, 78, died at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Rolling Meadows Health Care Center.

He was born in Olive Hill, Ky. to the late Everett and Gracie (Erwin) Porter and lived in Marion for 25 years before moving to Pt. Isabel where he lived for 18 years. He married Earline Richmond in 1950, they had one son J.C. and then he married Peggy Kariger in 1964. Peggy preceded him in death in December of 2003.

Donald was a US Army Korean War Veteran, serving from 1951 to 1954. He retired from Marion VA Medical Center in 1985 after 32 years where he worked in the carpenter shop. He was a past member of Westside Assembly of God and Elwood First Assembly of God. Donald was an avid fisherman and carpenter.

Survivors include son, J.C. (Lori) Porter, Marion; step-daughter, Bette (Bill) Hiatt, Secrest Lake; step-son, George (Lee) Leisure, Monticello; grandchildren, Lisa, Steven, David, Leeanna, David, Matt, Carin, Debbie and Lynnette; sisters, Doris (Royce) Tackett, Niles, Ohio, Wanda Maddix Spencer, Olive Hill, Ky.; brothers, Edd (Hope) Porter, Olive Hill, Ky., and Arney (Betty) Porter, Niles, Ohio.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in New Life Community Church, 2011 W. 10th St., Marion, with Revs. Johnny Garrison and David Grieve officiating. Burial will be in Knox Chapel Cemetery, Pt. Isabel.
