~THE LIFE SUMMARY OF PARLEY PRATT PETERSON, SR.

When Parley Pratt PETERSON, Sr. was born on 29 June 1857, in Lehi, Utah County, Utah, his father, Canute PETERSON, was 33 and his mother, Sarah Ann NELSON, was 30. He married Elizabeth Agnes BEAN on May 29, 1876, in Lehi, Utah County, Utah. They were the parents of at least four sons and six daughters. He lived in Ephraim Election Precinct, Sanpete County, Utah in 1900. He died on June 02, 1933, in Ephraim, Sanpete County, Utah, at the age of 75, and was buried in Ephraim Park Cemetery, Ephraim, Sanpete County, Utah.~MAN WHO DEVELOPED SHUMWAY DIES

Parley Pratt PETERSON, 75, died at his old home at Shumway, Friday afternoon from infirmities incident to his age. He had been in poor health since December and had failed rapidly during the past two weeks.

Mr. PETERSON was born at Lehi, June 29, 1857, a son of Canute and Sarah Anne PETERSON. His father was called to Ephraim to become L.D.S. bishop in 1867 and later became president of the Sanpete stake. Young PETERSON became acquainted with a school teach, Elizabeth BEAN, who came to teach the children in Ephraim and they were married on May 29, 1876, in the Endowment house at Salt Lake. He then engaged in farming and stock raising and also in the development of Shumway. He planted trees, built houses, developed the springs and constructed a fishing and boating pond so that Shumway became a favorite resort for this part of the valley. Because of his work in building up this beauty spot, Mr. PETERSON became affectionately known as "Shumway Parley."

Nine children were born to him and his school teacher bride, one son and three daughters now surviving. Parley P. PETERSON, Jr. and Mrs. Donna BECK, Ephraim; Mrs. Hazel MADSEN, Price, and Mrs. Fern WHITTINGTON, Salt Lake. The wife and mother died June 19, 1927. Mr. PETERSON is also survived by seven grandchildren, a step-mother, Mrs. Charlotte PETERSON, Salt Lake; two sisters and a brother, Mrs. A. H. LUND, Salt Lake; Mrs. Herberta BEAL, Ephraim, and John PETERSON, New York; also by the following half-brothers and sisters: Mrs. Alfred BAILEY, Thomas A. PETERSON and Mrs. James FROST, Ephraim; Jacob PETERSON, Mrs. Carrie TANNER and Mrs. Thomas A. BEAL, Salt Lake.

The body is now at the Olsen mortuary funeral parlors and may be viewed there from 1:00 p.m. Sunday until the hour of the Funeral which will be held at the West Ward Tabernacle some time Monday, the hour to be announced later.

Last rites for Parley P. PETERSON, Sr. were held in the Tabernacle Monday afternoon at which time speakers paid tribute to his cheerfulness, wit, modesty, honesty and other virtues and spoke of the trials he and his wife had borne together in losing five of their nine children, two of them by tragic deaths.

The Service was presided over by W. L. Breinholt with the music directed by Mrs. P. C. Peterson, Jr. and Geneva Peterson as accompanist. The invocation was by Mayor James Frost after which the choir sang "Oh My Father" with Bly Beal as soloist. President N. E. Noyes spoke of his acquaintance with the PETERSON family and of the splendid qualities of President Canute PETERSON, father of the deceased. He was followed by an organ solo by Sarah P. Stevens.

Dr. H. Z. Lund of Salt Lake brought a message of sympathy, love and deep respect from his mother, a sister of Mr. PETERSON and who was unable to come to the Funeral. He spoke highly of Mr. PETERSON, his honesty, cheerfulness and patience and of the trouble he and Mrs. PETERSON had endured together.

Drews Anderson and Ethelyn Peterson sang a duet, "Day Follows Night," with Helen Olsen as accompanist. This is a composition of Prof. Anthony C. Lund. W. L. Breinholt was the closing speaker after which Prof. Lund made a few remarks and then sang a solo, playing his own accompaniment. P. D. Jensen pronounced the benediction and the grave in the Park Cemetery was dedicated by Bishop P. C. Peterson. A large number of relatives and friends came from other towns for the Service.
