Godfrey D. Knight passed away at the age of 85 in Bigfork, Minnesota. Godfrey, who was well known around the Delta Junction area for his creative and artistic stonework, was born on June 26, 1926 in Bigfork, Minnesota. He grew up in Bigfork and Effie, Minnesota. During his lifetime he lived throughout the United States, including Minnesota, Oregon, and his beloved Alaska.
Godfrey was a lumberjack and woodsman who loved nature, animals and the woods. He loved his children and grandchildren. Godfrey's many unique talents and interests included artist, poet, survivalist, woodcarver, basket weaver, drawing, historian, writer, and expert wood axe skills. Constant seeker of knowledge, storyteller, he overcame much adversity. Godfrey was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Navy on a destroyer as a radar man. He survived active combat and bombings of his vessel.
Godfrey is survived by his children Amy Maxfield, Gerri Knight, James Knight, Bridget Graves, John Knight, Lori Knight, and George Prince, numerous brothers, nephews, nieces, cousins, grandchildren and great grand-children. He is preceded in death by son Keith Knight and daughter Janet Morales.
Visitation and funeral services are being held on Saturday, November 12, at Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church in Bigfork. Full military honors will be held.
