Francis Abrams enlisted as a private at Forest Hill, California, September 12, 1861, and was mustered into Company B, 4th California Infantry, September 25. Private Abrams was mustered out at Drum Barracks, California, October 4, 1864. He re-enlisted at Drum Barracks and was mustered into Company B, 4th California Infantry, November 8. Private Abrams was transferred to Company C, same regiment, February 10, 1865. Private Abrams was mustered out at Drum Barracks February 19, 1866 (Orton, pp. 610,618). After the war Francis settled at Kingman, Arizona Territory, where he filed for a Civil War veteran's pension November 30, 1891, and received application No. 1,072,683 and certificate No. 789,585. Francis was admitted to the Pacific Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, at Sawtelle (Los Angeles), California, May 16, 1895. At the time of his admission he was 62 years old and 5' 5" tall with a light complexion. Francis Abrams indicated he was single and had no known next-of-kin. Francis checked out of the Soldiers' Home November 12, 1895, at his own request, but was readmitted May 4, 1897. He died at the Soldiers' Home July 9, 1897, and was buried in the National Cemetery July 10.
