Funeral services for Pearl Harriss Rinn, 88, were held at 9:30 A.M. Monday, April 26, 1999 at First Baptist Church in Rockdale with burial following in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Rev. Larry Holden of First Baptist Church and Revs. Juan and Kathy Trevino of First Presbyterian Church officiated.

Mrs. Rinn died Saturday, April 24 in Richards Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born July 8, 1910 in Miles, Texas to John Newton Harriss and Stella Huffman Harriss and lived almost her entire life in Rockdale. She graduated from Rockdale High School in 1928 and attended the University of Texas, where she lettered in basketball as a freshman. In 1958, she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Mary Hardin-Baylor and a masters in elementary education from Southwest Texas State University in 1966.

She and Ernest Rinn were married on June 16, 1940. Mrs. Rinn was a member of First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed serving in many offices of the church throughout the years. She was a member of Rockdale Chapter 23, Order of the Eastern Star and was very active at both the local and state levels. She served as Assistant Grand Worthy Matron of District 4 for several terms.

During her career, Mrs. Rinn worked at Stricker's Variety Store and managed the Style Shop for Linwood Mehaffey. She taught fourth grade in Rockdale public school for almost 30 years. She loved teaching, was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge and forty-two.

Mrs. Rinn was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Rinn, on Sept. 16, 1994; three sisters, Rena Bernard, Avvis Oliver, and Johnnie Hall; three brothers, Lonnie Harriss, Dock Harriss, and Preston "Boots" Harriss.

Survivors include her son, John R. Rinn and wife Donnie of Rockdale, four grandchildren, Jenny Fleming and husband Mark of Bronxville, New York, Julie Campbell and husband Trey of Orlando, Florida, Lee Rinn and wife Lindsey of Rockdale, and Paul Rinn of Austin. Also one great grandchild, Courtney Campbell.

Pallbearers were Mickey Brannam, Ernest Hoffmeyer, Wilhelm Backhaus, Don Roddam, Bill Payne and Zeke Alford Jr. Honorary pallbearers wre Siegfried Backhaus and the Deacons of First Baptist Church.
