Mrs. Burns died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bessie Edwards in Higgston, following a long illness. She was a native of Johnson County, the daughter of the late John and Lizzie Brantley Ellis and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in that county.
She is survived by six daughters: Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Mamie Hammock, of Higgston, Mrs. Elmo Morrison, Soperton, Mrs. John Pittman, Uvalda, Mrs. L.L. Phillips, Brunswick and Mrs. Hilton Turner, Baxley. Five sons, John Burns, Vidalia, Virgil Burns, Ailey, Herman Burns, Augusta, Richard Burns, Adrian and Tom Burns, Higgston. Sixty grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
