Abingdon - Willard S. "Woody" Malone, 85, 300 N. Jefferson St., Apt. 202, died at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2007) in Care Center of Abingdon. He was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Abingdon, the son of Willard E. "Red" and Myrtle C. Landon Malone. He married Alberta Holsinger on Aug. 30, 1941, in Hannibal, Mo. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Eugenia "Jeanie" Griese, Pat (and Peter) Potenziani, and Betty (and Robert) Rosenberry, all of Abingdon; three brothers, Robert (and Jean Ann) Malone, Gilson, Dale (and Janet) Malone, London Mills, and Donald Malone, Abingdon; a sister, Joyce (and Stan) Simms, Galesburg; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, three brothers and two sisters. He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II. He lived in Abingdon since 1987. He lived in Cameron for more than 30 years and operated Sunoco Oil Co. for 13 years, retiring in 1981. He also worked at the Pottery in Abingdon. He was a member of Abingdon Christian Church and a past member of Cameron Christian Church. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381, a past member of the Cameron Fire Department and was president of the board of trustees for the Warren Central Fire Protection District. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Abingdon Christian Church, with the Rev. Bob Malone officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg, with military rites by American Legion Post 381.
