MEADE COUNTY MESSENGER OBITUARY – 08/14/1991

Gillie Ray, 73, of Flaherty, died Sunday, Aug. 11, at his residence. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Iron Workers Local No. 70. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Ray; six sons, Marion, Leroy and Richard Ray, all of Flaherty, Merlin E. Ray, Madisonville, Elroy Ray, Vine Grove, and Danny Ray, Rineyville; three daughters, Sherry Early, Nappa, Calif., Charlene Taylor, Frankfort, N.Y., and Donna Padgett, Radcliff; two brothers, Bernard Ray, North Highlands, Calif., and Gerald Ray, Madisonville; four sisters, Alleen Sipes, Vine Grove, Wilma Whelan, Vine Grove, Thelma Hatmaker, Garrett, and Julie Shircliffe, Louisville; 13 grandchildren. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Francis Ray and Joseph Hilary Ray. Services will be conducted 11 A.M. Wednesday at St. Martin Church, Flaherty, by the Rev. John Helm, with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. A prayer service is scheduled for Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Vine Grove Funeral Home.
