HOUTZDALE - Mrs. Margaret Smith, 88, of 933 Clara St., Houtzdale, died in Clearfield Hospital Tuesday, Nov. 18.
Born Feb. 26, 1898, in Dunlo, a daughter of George and Sarah Mackey, she had been married to Leonard Smith, who died on Nov. 26, 1968.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Houtzdale; the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Victoria Court No. 646, where she had served as treasurer for several years; and the Rosary and Altar Society.
Mrs. Smith had been a Democratic party chairwoman for Woodward Township for several years, having served as a member of the Woodward Township Democratic Committee for over 50 years. She was also vice chairman of the Clearfield County Democratic Committee for one term; treasurer of the Monshannon Valley Democratic Club for 15 years; and has served one term as a delegate to the state Democratic committee.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen, and three brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a sister, Ellen Caroff of Dunlo; three brothers, James, Clifford and Berwyn, all of Cleveland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Church by the Rev. Leonard M. Kuziora.
Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.
Friends will be received at the Raymond Hayes Funeral Home in Houtzdale from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
