Carlos G. Baker, 81 a resident of Inn at Westbrook and formerly of 595 Betty Lou Street, Upper Sandusky, OH died December 18, 2006, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. Born in Wharton, Ohio on July 10, 1925, he was the son of Herbert W. Baker Sr. and Ruth R. (England) Baker. Carlos married Phyllis Bowman on September 15, 1945 in Greenup, KY. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2003. Surviving are three daughters: (names removed) three grandchildren; (names removed); 2 great-grandchildren; (names removed); a brother, (name removed); and a sister,(name removed). He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Baker, and a granddaughter Meredith Long. Carlos graduated from Wharton, High School in 1943. He was captain of the basketball team which was known as the "Wharton Whiz Kids of '43" because of their winning record, which included the District Championship and Regional Runner -Up. He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War ll, and was a graduate of the Auto Body Repair program at Utilities Engineering Institute in Chicago. Carlos owned an automobile dealership in Upper Sandusky selling Hudson, Rambler,and American Motors automobiles. After selling his business in 1976, he worked as a service manager at the American Motors dealership in Findlay and the Ford dealership in Upper Sandusky, retiring in 1988. Carlos was a member of the John Stewart United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Elks. He was a former member of the Upper Sandusky Tuesday Night Men's Bowling league,and bowled with Phyllis in the Rough and Tough League at Mt. Idy Lanes. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation in care of the funeral home. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
