I am placing Richard Wheeler in this family cemetery because I cannot find a record of his death or burial in Quebec or New York State. He was bequeathed Timothy Wheeler's farm in Clarenceville, Quebec. Timothy died in 1854. Perhaps Richard died there and was buried in the Wheeler Cemetery on the farm.

The Register of the Methodist Church serving St. Armand, Quebec for the year 1840, folio 14, Quebec National Archives Microfilm #124.12.

"Richard son of Timothy Wheeler of the Seigniory of Foucalt Yeoman and of Elizabeth his wife was born on the third day of September one thousand eight hundred and twenty two and baptized this tenth day of May one thousand eight hundred and forty in the presence of the subscribing witnesses by me
signed William Squire Minister"

Therefore, Richard Wheeler was baptized as an adult in the Methodist Church at St. Armand which would only be a short distance by boat from the Wheeler farm.

Richard Wheeler was a child of Timothy and Elizabeth Sheldon Wheeler. Richard married his first cousin once removed, Adelia Wheeler, 10 May 1840 in St. Armand, Quebec, Canada. She was born 4 March 1828 in Russeltown, Quebec, Canada, daughter of William Wheeler and Melvina Gibbs.

His mother Elizabeth (Sheldon) Wheeler had died in 1830, but in 1846 some of Richard's siblings filed a law suit against their father Timothy forcing him to settle their mother's estate. In 1846 Richard Wheeler had crops growing on his father's farm.

On October 7, 1846, Richard Wheeler and his wife deeded property to his brother, Horace Wheeler and his wife, who then sold the property to Collins Lake. This property was probably part of Richard's mother's estate which he had inherited.

This occurred after the moveable estate of his mother Elizabeth Sheldon was settled in August of 1846. His siblings did much arguing in the settling of the estate. His son, Robert Richard Wheeler was born December 13, 1846 in New York State. Son Carlos John Wheeler was born Sept. 1, 1849 in Bangor, Franklin County, New York per his marriage record to second wife Sarah Loxton in Milford, N.H. However, census records say that Carlos Wheeler was born in Canada. A daughter, Sarah E. Wheeler was born to this couple in Quebec in 1848.

Richard Wheeler is not listed on the 1851 Canadian census. However, his daughter Sarah Elizabeth Wheeler was adopted by her great aunt Rebecca (Wheeler) Billings and husband Abraham Billings. This family are found in the 1851 Canadian Cenus with Sarah Wheeler age 5 in the household. This indicates that her father, Richard Wheeler, was deceased by this date.

Timothy Wheeler bequeathed his farm to his son Richard in his will dated Nov. 16th, 1846: "Sixthly, give and bequest the said testator, to Richard Wheeler, his beloved son, all the right claims and titles, and other rights whatsovever which the said testator may have claim demand of the Seigniory of Foulcault on Allard's Manor containing lot of land one hundred acres with the like rights in the house, barn, stable, shed and other buildings hereon erected. To have hold use and_______the same by the Richard Wheeler, his heirs and assigns. By virtue of the last will and testament, and to take possession of the ___________immediately after the decease of the said testator."

Richard Wheeler was named executor and sole heir of Timothy Wheeler's farm. Timothy's third wife Deborah (Casey) was to receive half of the personal property and moveables and Sarah Ann Wheeler (daughter by his second wife Nancy Dodge) was to receive the other half of personal moveable property. Richard was to support Sarah Ann, his minor half sister, until she married.

On May 18, 1854 Richard's father Timothy died, but did Richard die before his father? It appears that he died by 1851. However, son Carlos John Wheeler married second to Sarah Frazier in Milford, N.H. This marriage record states his father Richard Wheeler is not living, 76 years at death. This would place Richard Wheeler's death about 1889!

In 1860 son Carlos Wheeler is living with the Samuel Gibbs family in Bangor, N.Y., Samuel is his mother's uncle.I can not find the son Robert Wheeler in 1860, but he did join the Calvary during the Civil War. Carlos was probably adopted by Samuel just as his sister Sarah was adopted by Abraham Billings. Who adopted Robert, were there more children born before Robert?

Their mother Adelia Wheeler is in the 1861 Canada Census living with her parents, William and Melvina Wheeler in Franklin, Huntingdon County, Quebec.

Richard and Adelia had two sons, Robert and Carlos and a daughter Sarah Elizabeth Wheeler that we know of thus far.
