James Ernest Beard, 80, of Franklin, died Wednesday, May 20 1998.

Mr. Beard was the assistant supervisor of the Street Department for the City of Franklin. He was a member of Boston Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora Holt Beard of Franklin; four daughters, Louise Beard and Shirley J. Beard, both of Franklin, Lucille Bennett of Theta and Marie Hood of Columbia; five sons, James Elvin Beard, Ernest E. Beard, Alvin Beard, John Houston Beard and Milton Ray Beard, all of Franklin; one brother, Wesley Beard of Piney Flatts; two half-brothers, Virgil Radar of Franklin and Eugene Beard of Kentucky; two half-sisters, Evie Anglin and Ruby Howell, both of Franklin and Mary Etta Hewitt of Theta; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, at Franklin Memorial Chapel with Maurice Thomason officiating. Burial will be in the Beard Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. City of Franklin Employees will serve as honorary pallbearers.
