YATES CITY - John R. McCoy, 72, of 477 Knox Road 2150 East, formerly of Route 2 in Canton, died at 3:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. Born May 21, 1927, in Maquon Township in Knox County to Walter Pete and Bernice Colvin McCoy, he married Betty Heller on Oct. 30, 1949, in Jacksonville. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Janet (and Gary) Inskeep of Yates City; one brother, Walter Bob of Glasford; one grandson; one stepgrandson; one stepgranddaughter; and five great-grandchildren. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Germany. He was a lifelong farmer in the Canton and Yates City areas and was a member of the Farm Bureau. Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. The Rev. Jeremy Henson will officiate. There will be no visitation. Private committal will be in Yates City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Yates City Rescue Unite or BYE Ambulance.
