Edward served as a First Lieutenant & Navigator on B-17G #42-31795, 774th Bomber Squadron, 463rd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war.

B-17G #42-31795 took off, with a crew of 10, on a bombing mission over Budapest, Hungary. The B-17 crashed near Budapest and " 2 " of the crew perished. The other " 8 " crew members became POW's.

He was "Killed In Action" during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 3 Oak Clusters, and the Purple Heart.

Syracuse Herald Journal - August 20, 1949

The body of Lt. Edward McFarland Eagan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Eagan of 1419 James St., was returned to Syracuse Thursday. A private mass, attended only by members of the family was celebrated in St. Vincent De Paul's Church and burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.

Lt. Eagan was a navigator in the Air Forces and was killed in action July 14, 1944 over Budapest, Hungary. He had received the Air Medal with three Oak Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart.

He was born in Syracuse Oct 6, 1922.

His sister Jane Fallon is also buried in this cemetery.
