Mr. Wheeler died Saturday, Sept. 30 at Jacksonville Medical Center. He was a native of Cullman, born on Dec. 15, 1913, to Jane Lester and George William Wheeler. In addition to farming, he was an experienced electrician and machinist. However, farming and love of the land always remained his passion. Having worked and lived through the Depression years, he never forgot those hard times and would do anything he could to help someone in need. Prior to a lengthy illness, Mr. Wheeler was an active member of West Point Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He lived his life as he believed through trust in God, honest hard work, truthfulness and respect for his fellow man.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Irene Coggin Wheeler; a brother, Herman Wheeler; two sisters, Louise Walker and Thelma Holmes; and a great-granddaughter, Miriam Victoria Gamiel.

Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Weldon, who was also his caretaker for seven years, Reba Helms and Jean Markham; a sister, Doris Chessar; a brother, Bob Wheeler; five grandchildren, Russell Helms, Trina Gamiel, Dudley Markham, Felicia Cain and Ann Daugherty; and five great-grandchildren, Wesley Cain, Lucy Helms, Sarah Gamiel, Cora Helms and Patrick Cain.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the church and community he loved so dearly, West Point Baptist Church, 140 County Road 1242, Vinemont, AL 35179.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Osborne, Russell Helms, Dudley Markham, Sidney Cain, Mohammed Gamiel, Ryan Daugherty, Johnny Chessar and Danny Weldon.

A very special thanks is extended to Dr. Peinhardt of Cullman; Dr. Yates and Dr. Ingram of Jacksonville; the dedicated and compassionate staff of Unit 1; Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center; and the Jacksonville Medical Center.
