From the Fall River Evening News, December 20, 1922:
Joseph Sibley Taylor passed away at his home on Water street, late Monday evening, after illness of about three weeks duration, which followed a fall in his home. Mr. Taylor was born in East Freetown, March 29, 1834. His parents were Elder James Taylor, who was pastor of the First Christian church for a number of years, and Mary Williams Taylor. He was one of a family of six, four brothers and a sister, all of whom he survived. He followed one of his older brothers across the country in the gold rush and lived among the Black Hawk mountains for some years. Returning to Freetown, he married Miss Phoebe Bryant of this town, removing to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they spent a number of years, finally returning to Freetown. Mr. Taylor was a member of the First Christian church, was a deacon and clerk of the church, and also superintendent of the Sunday school, and very active in the support of these organizations as long as his health permitted. He was town clerk and treasurer from 1897 to 1920, when he resigned as treasurer, although holding the town clerk's office until the time of his death. He is survived by a niece, Mrs. Frank W. Dean of Assonet, and a nephew, A. Wellington Dean of New York; also a number of nephews and one niece in Taunton. The funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 o'clock at his late residence.
