Jonas Parke was born 14 Oct 1758 in Preston, New London Co, CT, the fifth of eight children born to the union of Zebulon Parke and Anna Killam.

Jonas was Patriot and a soldier during the Revolutionary War, for which he received a pension.

He married Miss Mary Hettrick, with whom he had one son, Peter Parke. Mary died some time before 1790.

On 16 Apr 1790 at Hoosick, Rensselaer Co, NY, Jonas remarried to the former Miss Rachel Compton, the daughter of John Francis Compton and Helena Shearer. She was the widow of Mr Lyman Elijah Wood, who was born in England. Rachel and Mr Wood had a son Lyman Wood circa 1788. Mr Lyman Elijah Wood died sometime before 1790.

After the Revolution, Jonas and Rachel moved to Deposit, Delaware Co, NY. There he was a master boatswain, as well as a jeweler and watchmaker.

Rachel and Jonas had at least five children together: Jonas, Jr in 1791, who died on 6 Jun 1812 aged 21 years; Hellen in 1793, who married William George Frazier and emigrated to Clinton Co, IA and had eleven children; Solomon in 1800, who died in on 20 Mar 1854 unmarried; Lucy in 1801, who also emigrated to Clinton Co, IA and died unmarried; and William Parke, who married Nancy M. Brown and had one son, Edwin, who died on 23 Jun 1863 aged 23 years.

Jonas Parke died on 25 Sep 1825 in Deposit, Delaware Co, NY aged 66 years 11 months 11 days. The rest of his family is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Deposit, Broome Co, NY and his name appears on the family monument (Find A Grave Memorial# 160342699), but this is just a Cenotaph and he is buried in the Revolutionary War Cemetery, Deposit, Delaware Co, NY.

Rachel never remarried, remaining a widow for over twenty-five years, dying at the home of her son Solomon Parke in Deposit, Delaware Co, NY on 14 Mar 1852, aged 83 years and 11 months.
