His mother is unknown at this time. There is no proof that her name maiden name is Caudle. Actually just the opposite. I have the original document that may be the source of how that rumor was started. People easily adopt the research of others, without proving or disproving what they find. In the case of William Vestal's first wife, this stands true. In 1946 Jack Herring Vestal (Jack's Great-Grandfather was George Washington Vestal, brother of Thomas Noah Vestal) interviewed and wrote down the information given to him by his grandfathers brother, Alfred Alexander Vestal. Alfred is the youngest child of George Washington Vestal and Martha Bell. Alfred was living in Midland, Texas at the time. Jack hand wrote the family chart of George Washington Vestal, as dictated to him by Alfred, (I have in my possession). Alfred did not know the name of his mother and that fact is stated on the chart under his father George Washington Vestal as "first wife unknown." Alfred was about 2 at the time of his mothers death. Right next to it says "Jim Caudle came from her side of house." Somehow it got all mixed around by somebody back in the mid 1990's, that the Caudle reference was being made about Thomas & George's mother instead of George's wife. So now everyone has put "Caudle" as the maiden name of Thomas & George's mother. Her maiden name remains unknown. The Caudle reference was being made about the first wife of George Washington Vestal and not that of his unknown mother, who married William Vestal born 1802 North Carolina. Jim Caudle was mentioned as a generalization. The chart simply suggests that a guy by the name of Jim Caudle, is somehow associated or related to George's wife. It can be assumed (maybe) that Jim Caudle is somehow related to Martha Bell and not that he is a relative of William Vestal's first wife. She is still unknown. On that chart there is a note that says "2 Caudle girls live in Midland."
The Clear Creek Community was established in 1871 with the building of the church. The story goes that one of the men fell to heat stroke April 9, 1871. His name was I. J. Hodges. I would like more verification on this story. The land for the cemetery was donated by the Thomas Noah Vestal family as Thomas had died the previous year in October. The land for the church was donated by a neighbor. Thomas is buried next to his wife Demaris and daughter Sarah on the land he bought in April of 1866. Their headstones still stand. The Vestal cemetery is located just south of the Old Bowling Community and within seeing distance of the Clear Creek Cemetery. It's miles away from Marquez.
