Ruth attended the Loudville School for her elementary education, and was a 1908 graduate of Northfield Seminary. From 1908 to 1912, she taught in the public schools of Westhampton, the first year at the Northwest School and for three years at the Center School.
In 1914, Ruth went to Boston to attend the Gordon Bible College, from which she was graduated in 1916. She then started working as a secretary and church visitor at the Roxbury Presbyterian Church. Her parents and her sister Lucy moved to Boston around 1918, and the four of them lived at 5 Lambert Avenue in Roxbury for many years. In 1929, Ruth resigned from the Roxbury church and started work at the Harvard Church in Brookline, where she served as a church secretary for twenty-one years. After the deaths of their parents, Ruth and Lucy sold the house in Roxbury in 1942 and moved to an apartment at 58 Perry Street in Brookline. Ruth lived there until her retirement in 1950.
In 1951, Ruth was married to a distant cousin whom she had known for many years and who had recently been widowed. Frank Easter Bridgman had been Clerk of the House of Representatives in Boston for many years and had retired to Mount Dora, Florida in 1939. After their marriage Ruth and Frank spent summers at his home in Wollaston, Mass., and winters in Mount Dora. In 1957, they bought a house in Mount Dora and Florida became their permanent residence. Under the guidance of Frank, Ruth became an avid lawn bowler and was a member of five championship teams. In 1957, she was diagnosed with leukemia and she died from this disease six years later.
Frank E. Bridgman lived to be 104 years old and died in December of 1973, exactly ten years after Ruth.
