Mount Union, Pa., May 12. - Samuel S. Lutz, a native of Germany Valley; the father of Alton E. Fields and the brother of Monroe Lutz, of Mount Union; died at his home in Galesburg, Illinois, Saturday, May 9th, after an illness of one year. Prior to his illness he was employed as baggage master for the Atcheson, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad at Galesburg.

Samuel S. Lutz was born and reared in Germany Valley. He was the son of John X. Lutz. He was twice married. The first union was with Miss Blanche Spanogle, a daughter of the late George Spanogle, of Huntingdon. Two sons were born to this union, Charles S. Lutz of Freeport, Illinois, and Alton E. Fields of Mount Union who at the time of the mother's death was but a baby. He was raised and adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Elishua Fields of Mount Union but always kept in close touch with his father. The second union was with Miss Carrie Burkett, the daughter of Peter Burkett. One son born to this union is deceased. The widow and the two sons survive. Mr Lutz was a Presbyterian and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at his late home, 219 Henderson street, Galesburg, Illinois, with interment at Galesburg.
