Charles D.M. Washburn was also known as Charles Macon Washburn.

He married Mary Jane Martin 19 Oct 1865 at Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska; divorced on 16 Nov 1882 at Albany County, Wyoming. He died on 12 Feb 1893 at Laramie, Albany County, Wyoming. The death notice of 13 Feb 1893 simply states: "C.D.M. Washburne died Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The funeral was held this afternoon (Monday) at 4 o'clock."

Perhaps there is no connection, but less than a month after Washburn's death, on 22 Mar 1893, the Boomerang printed an article called Death by a Bullet. In this article Mrs. W.J. Hunter was shot at by her husband and he then shot himself to death. This Mrs. W.J. Hunter is the divorced wife of C.D.M. Washburne.

C.D.M. Washburn served as mayor of Grand Island, Nebraska from 1878 to 1880.

1879. 5 April. C.D.M. Washburn was elected Mayor last year by a majority of four. This year he had a majority of 102.

In the late 1880s he owned a Livery, Feed and Sale Barn at 205 East Street, Grand Island (History of Hall County, p. 275).
