From Mr. Swain: "The Clue to finding him was buried in his brother George's compiled service record. It was a receipt from a surgeon from Winchester, VA to the Quartermaster Dept with the late George Lott's personal effects; we know George did not die in Winchester, so it must have been his brother. My theory is that John must have had a piece of equipment with his brother's name on it, thus the mis-indentification."
From Sonya Eason, August of 2013: Most of the Confederate soldiers who died at Gettysburg were buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA in unmarked graves
