Robert K. Herr, 79, 2825 Indiana Ave., Stevens Point, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point, while under the care of Ministry Home Care-Hospice Services.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Tom Petersen officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and again from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Food Pantry or Ministry Home Care-Hospice Services.

Mr. Herr was born March 16, 1931, in Chicago, Ill, a son of the late Fred and Frieda (Albright) Herr. He moved to the town of Plover at an early age and attended Meehan Elementary School. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1949.

He was married to Gladys Moll on Sept. 26, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Junction City.

He worked for the Whiting and Plover paper mills before entering into military service. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Feb. 3, 1954, and served during the Korean War. During his time of service he earned a National Defense Service Metal and a United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 26, 1956.

He returned to the Whiting Plover Mill until becoming employed at WPS as an electric meter repair man. He retired in 1991 after 35 years.

He was member of the American Legion Post 6 and served on several boards and committees at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include wife; two daughters, Lu Rae Petersen, Stevens Point, and Lu Ann (Ken) Herr-Scharmer, Phillips; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother.
