Mildred Lee Adkins, age 72, of Hagerstown, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.
She was born in Henry Co. on June 15, 1938, the daughter of John and Hilda (Windmiller) Benedict. She attended Mooreland School and lived most of her life in Hagerstown. She was an avid bingo player and volunteered at the Thrift Shop for many years.
Survivors include three children: Roberta (Gregg) Sparks of Daytona Beach, FL, George (Carolyn) Adkins of New Castle and Jerry (Cindy Parker) Adkins of Hagerstown; six grandchildren: Tia Sparks, Tanika Sparks, Thomas Adkins, Brett Adkins, Jacob Adkins and Samantha Dishman; two step-granddaughters: Tricia Crost and Christie Crost; two step-great-grandchildren: Jacob Hofer and Jaden Crost; brothers and sisters: Helen Litton, Harold Benedict, Emma Lou Massengale, Rosemary Mastin, Don Benedict, Patricia Healton, Shirley Gray, Gussy Lindsey and Linda Massengale; a brother-in-law, Charles Adkins; a sister-in-law, Eileen Adkins; and a special friend, Mickey Ellis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2005; and two brothers: Albert "Junior" Benedict and Ronnie Benedict.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 2 in Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Rev. Max Knight will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery.
